Wayne Gilbert passed away on April 16, 2026, at his home in Nixa, Missouri, surrounded by loved ones.
Wayne was born December 3, 1945, in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in Mountain Home, Arkansas, where he graduated from high school in 1964. He attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, and graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1973 with a degree in Finance.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971, with time served in Thailand, Japan, and Korea.
In his retirement, Wayne volunteered as a guide for several years at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. As a Civil War buff, he enjoyed all of the people touring the park and the people he worked with.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Kehr Gilbert; his children, Ashley (Scott) Bruce and Kaarie (Shawn) Roberts; and his grandchildren, Parker Roberts, Reed Roberts, Aubrey Bruce, and Leilanni Bruce and Izzy Bruce. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry (Debbie) Gilbert, and many other family members and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Missouri, with Pastor Don Childers officiating.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.
