Troy Mills

Troy L. Mills, age 83, of Nixa, Missouri, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Esther, Missouri, on January 12, 1936 to Kenneth and Nellie (Umfleet) Mills. Troy was a veteran, a teacher, and most importantly, an authentic and joy-filled believer in Christ. Troy retired from the Navy after 20 years of distinguished service and immediately met the love of his life, Carolyn. They were married December 22, 1972, and shared over 46 years together. Survivors also include: His wife, Carolyn, a daughter, Kristen (Ron) Steward, Springfield; his grandson with whom he had a special bond, Nick Mills, Nixa; his beloved niece, Mallory (Jessica) Spurgin and nephew Zac Goodall all of St. Louis; a brother, Norman Mills, Illinois; son, Jeff Mills, Utah, daughter Judy Harrell, Washington, and son Michael Mills, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill Mills and Gene Mills. He enjoyed serving at First Baptist Church of Nixa, and also in the community. Troy selflessly gave of himself in whatever he was doing. He adored his family and loved spending time with the children, usually getting them in trouble with his horseplay. He knew he was loved and the family knew he loved them. His legacy includes 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew him is heartbroken, but his family rejoices knowing he is in the presence of the Savior he loved and served with all his heart. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, May 30, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 31, in First Baptist Church, Nixa, with Pastor Tim Haupt officiating. Military Honors will be conducted. Burial will be in Springfield National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Troy's memory may be made to Honor Flight of the Ozarks, or Nixa First Baptist Church.
