Tommy Joe Thompson, age 76, of Nixa, Missouri, passed away on June 16, 2026.
Tommy was born on April 15, 1950, to Joe and Doris Thompson. He attended Parkview High School in Springfield, Missouri, where he was a member of the track team and competed in pole vaulting.
After high school, Tommy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a disabled veteran whose service and sacrifice were a source of pride throughout his life.
Tommy loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding his Harley. He was known for his generous spirit, often sharing the fruits of his garden with friends, neighbors, and family. A devoted Christian, Tommy frequently reminded those around him to "leave it to God," a phrase that reflected the faith that guided his life.
For more than twenty years, Tommy faithfully volunteered at a local food pantry, helping those in need and serving his community with compassion. He was also proud of his 26 years of sobriety. He attended recovery meetings faithfully, often arriving early to make sure the doors were open for others. Through his dedication and encouragement, he mentored many people on their own paths to sobriety.
Above all, Tommy was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who cherished time with his family.
Tommy is survived by his children, Jason Thompson (Georgina), Andrea Thompson and partner Brian Pierce, and Joe Thompson (Tara); his brother, Wayne Thompson (Ronda); his sisters, Glain Thompson and Gay Howard (Kevin); his grandchildren, Mercedes Walley, Casey Purple Sgt., Ellie Thompson, Quentin Thompson, Qi Qi Thompson, TJ Thompson, and Tinsley Thompson; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte Bilyeu and Xander Walley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Doris Thompson, and his grandchild, Tommy Zeigler.
Tommy will be remembered for his unwavering faith, generous heart, dedication to helping others, and deep love for his family. Whether sharing vegetables from his garden, encouraging someone in recovery, hunting deer, casting a fishing line, ending each conversation with "All Clear," or reminding a loved one to "leave it to God," Tommy touched countless lives. His legacy of faith, service, kindness, and perseverance will continue through all who knew and loved him.
