Toby Curtis Major

Toby Curtis Major, 54, of Nixa, Missouri, passed away on September 5, 2026.

Born in Springfield, Missouri, Toby was the son of Nick and Kathy Major. He built a life centered around family, hard work, friendship, and faith. Above all, Toby was a husband and father who loved his family deeply and worked hard throughout his life to provide for those he loved.

Toby married his wife, Cindy Major, on July 10, 1999. For 27 years, they shared a life together through joy, challenges, laughter, heartbreak, and a love that endured through it all. There was never any doubt how deeply Toby loved Cindy and their sons.

Toby was the proud father of two sons, Jonathon Brannon and Curtis Major. Jonathon and his wife, Caitlyn Brannon, were an important part of Toby’s life and family.

Toby’s son Curtis preceded him in death following a courageous four-year battle with rhabdomyosarcoma. The loss of Curtis changed Toby’s life profoundly, and he carried the love and grief of losing his son with him every day. Curtis’s wife, Alyssa Major, has been loved as a daughter in the Major family since 2016 and remained deeply loved by Toby.

While those left behind grieve another tremendous loss, there is comfort in knowing that Toby and Curtis are together once again, reunited in the arms of Jesus.

Toby began and ended his career with Smurfit-WestRock in Springfield, Missouri. Through the years, he faced his own health challenges, but he continued to work, provide, and care for his family. Being a provider was simply part of who Toby was.

Toby enjoyed hunting, especially the time spent outdoors with his sons and his friends Sean, Matt, and Bradley Vorce. He also treasured the time he spent on the Conway leased land with his good friends Sonny McClanahan and Tim. Their friendship became especially meaningful during the last two years of Toby’s life. As he grieved the loss of Curtis, these men walked alongside him, offering friendship, companionship, and a place where he could simply be Toby. Their friendship meant more than words can adequately express.

Toby attended The House church in Marionville, Missouri, and his faith was an important part of his life and of the hope his family holds onto today.

Toby is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cindy Major; his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathon and Caitlyn Brannon; his daughter-in-love, Alyssa Major; his father, Nick Major; and his brother, Tony Major, Corey Major nephew, Clair Major Niece, Cameron Major nephew of Missouri. Cody Martin, nephew, Kourtney Martin niece, Camille Martin niece, Kadence Martin niece, Clara Martin niece, and Connor Martin, nephew, and Farah Martin niece.

He also leaves behind a large loved family and many people who were much more than relatives to him, including his cousin, dear friend, and sister at heart, Kim Gaither, Colton Gaither, cousin; Aaron, cousin, Alyssa- cousin, Mason, cousin, and Sutton Wildschuetz, cousin, Matt cousin, Kendra cousin, Harper cousin, Emmy cousin, Grayson Mayo cousin, of Arkansas; Tony Hulsey and Lana Hulsey father-in-law and step mother in law of Missouri; Carolyn Sneath aunt in law; Mike and Teri Redd cousins in-law along with their adult kids and grandkids of Missouri; Anita Gustaveson mother-in-law of Missouri; Blaine Byrom and Julie Hulsey-Byrom brother and sister-in-law, Kaden and Raigan Dawson, Nephew and Niece in-law of Missouri; Niki Schapeler sister-in-law; Derek Schapeler nephew in-law; Nate and Raelyn Enloe Nephew and Niece in-law of Missouri; James Hulsey brother-in-law, Kenny and Jeneve Constable uncle and aunt; Clint and Teresa Weidman, cousin; Brandon and Danielle Evans, cousin, Benlee, Jeneve and Jerry Evans, cousin; Dillon and Sabrina Weidman, cousin, Brody, Kaiya, and Liam Weidman, cousin; Zachary and Gabrialye Stapf, cousin; Kenneth, Trinity, Anayah, and Ezekiel Stapf, cousin; Aaron and Latisha Trone, cousin; Landon Trone, cousin, Amanda Kelley, cousin, Jordan and Yuan Yuan Trone, cousin; Mason Trone, cousin; Melissa Constable, cousin; Garrett and Parker Constable, cousin; all of Missouri. Kay Bruton, Aunt; Tanya, Alex, and Austin Bruton, cousin; Kevin, McKenzie, Henry, Emilia, and Daniel Gutierrez, cousin; Micah Bruton, cousin; Cade, Madison and Ava Patterson of Oklahoma.

Toby was also loved by many extended family members of the including Weaver and Vorce families. Each was part of the large circle of family that made up Toby’s life.

Toby was preceded in death by his beloved son, Curtis Major; his mother, Kathy Major; his brother, Tracy Major; his grandparents, Roger Curtis Constable and Fern Constable; his paternal grandparents Ed and Norma Major; his beloved aunt and “bonus mom,” Karen Smith; his uncle, David Bruton; and his cousin, Jeff Bruton, uncle in law Tom Sneath, cousin in-law Mike Royston.

Those who knew Toby will remember a man who worked hard, provided for his family, loved his wife and sons fiercely, valued his friendships, and continued moving forward even when life asked him to carry more than seemed fair.

His family will miss his presence in all the ordinary places where a husband, dad, family member, and friend becomes woven into everyday life. His absence will be deeply felt, but so will the love he gave during his 54 years.

And for a family that has already known the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to Curtis, there is comfort in picturing a different kind of homecoming now—a father and son together again, whole and at peace, in the arms of Jesus.

A Celebration of Life honoring Toby will be held in October 2026, with the date, time, and location to be announced.
