Shirley Ann Maples

November 21, 1935 — May 3, 2026

Clever

Shirley Ann Maples, age 90, of Clever, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026.

Shirley was born on November 21, 1935, to James William and Bessie Ellen (Willoughby) Hedgpeth. She graduated from Nixa High School in 1954, where she was known for her unique talent as a yodeler. Growing up, Shirley developed a strong work ethic, helping milk cows before school each day—something that stayed with her throughout her life.

On February 19, 1955, she married Joe Maples. They shared many years together until his passing on May 21, 2020. Together, they worked side by side on their dairy farm, a role that was very important to Shirley and one she took great pride in. They enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri. Shirley especially loved country music.

Shirley was a faithful member of Union Ridge Baptist Church in Clever, where she made it a priority to ensure her family was always in attendance. Her life centered around her family, to whom she was deeply devoted. She took great pride in her home, her garden, and her yard, always keeping them beautiful and welcoming.

She was an exceptional cook, known especially for her delicious pies, homemade ice cream, and roast dinners. Shirley also enjoyed showing horses, including Fox Trotters and Quarter Horses.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Brent and Melissa Maples of Billings, Rex and Jeanie Maples of Nixa, and Brad and Melanie Maples of Clever; her grandchildren, Will (Lauren), Sarah (Jordan), Morgan (Will), Christopher, Chandler, and Hannah (Mackenzi) Maples; her great-grandchildren, Sophie Maples, Grayson Swadley, Lowery Maples, Kanaan Swadley, and Connor (Rachel) Henderson; her sister, Rose Delman of Springfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Maples; her parents; her siblings, Joyce Armstrong, Ron Hedgpeth, Marilyn Hedgpeth; and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Delaware Cemetery in Nixa, Missouri.

Shirley will be remembered for her strong faith, her tireless work ethic, her love of family, and the warmth she brought into every home and gathering. Her legacy of love and devotion will live on in all who knew her.
