Scott Campbell

Thomas “Scott” Campbell, age 57, of Republic, Missouri, passed away on July 9, 2026. He was born on October 1, 1968, to Melvin T. and Beverly  Sue (McDaniel) Campbell.

Scott grew up in Springfield, Missouri racing BMX. He developed a deep love for the competitive nature of racing, and the bond of brotherhood in the racing culture. He later began racing motocross earning the nickname “Crash Campbell.” In his words, “I either crashed or I won  - and sometimes both.” 

Scott graduated from Kickapoo High School class of 1987, where he earned the title of varsity letterman in wrestling  - and ended up with a picture in the Springfield News-Leader. 

Scott worked most of his life as a master welder and fabricator. Through his dedication to exceeding expectations, he had the honor of being a former president of Boilermakers Union Local 83. Later in his career he followed down the path of his son Justin and worked side by side with lifelong friend Jerry Lankton, to make his mark at Silver Dollar City, helping construct the newly renovated rollercoaster Fire in the Hole.

When Scott wasn’t building roller coasters or constructing power plants, he was fueling his competitive nature at the racetrack. Being the best at working the bottom of the track earned him numerous wins, a plentiful number of trophies, and the unforgettable name, “Catfish Campbell.” Catfish Campbell car #83, competed in the Midwest Modified 2018 Turkey Bowl, and barley took home the win and the iconic trophy to come with it.

Scott's greatest passion in life was the people around him. Through the skills he learned and the relationships he built, he kept himself plenty busy off the racetrack. Whether it was suspension work, custom fabrication, a simple phone call, or smoking some hams, Scott was always there to help and put the biggest smiles on everybody’s faces. If someone needed something - Scott was there at the drop of a hat. By the time Scott left, a moment was created you would never forget. This is a strong reflection of his Christian faith, his strong family ties, and the meaning of brotherhood his life taught him. Scott will never be forgotten.

Scott is survived by his children, Cortney Campbell, Gavin Campbell and Aaron Cummings; his grandson Elijiah Campbell; his siblings, Marilyn (Chip) Campbell-Fetter, Anthony (Annette) Campbell, Tracey (Ron) George, Lucille Dick (second mom), Jack (Cheryl) Dick (cousin like brother); niece and nephews, Tyler Ross, Kristen Brown, JT Dick, Kyle Dick; lifelong friend and race sponsor Dean and Lynda Hoover; loads of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin T. and Beverly Campbell; and his son Justin Campbell.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, officiated by JT Dick. 

Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
