Ruth Elizabeth Wilham, age 97, passed away on January 2, 2026. She was born on January 23, 1928, in Northfield, Vermont, to Walter D. and Mabel (Hilliker) Hicken.
Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Harford High School in White River Junction, Vermont. On November 23, 1956, she married Carl Edward Wilham, and the two shared many years together until Carl’s passing in 2023.
Ruth worked for many years as a head waitress at elegant hotels at The Saint Aspinquid in Ogunquit-by-the-Sea, Maine and West Palm Beach, Florida, where her professionalism and grace were well known.
She loved to travel and with her husband's career in the civil service, she had the opportunity to see many places throughout the world. Ruth was also known for enjoying a Jack Daniels on the rocks on occasion and was a lover of owls.
Ruth proudly served her country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. She was part of the Women of the Air Force (WAF), where she demonstrated exceptional skill in Morse code. Her aptitude led her to Keesler Air Force Base, where she became an instructor. She was later ordered to the Pentagon in support of the Korean War effort.
She is survived by her son, David Wilham and his wife, Diane; and her granddaughter, Kirsten Ruth Wilham. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Carl Edward Wilham.
Ruth will be remembered for her service to her country, her independence, and the full life she lived.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark and cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.
