Robert Alfred Thompson

September 12, 1940 — February 18, 2023

Robert Alfred Thompson, 82, of Springfield passed away on Saturday February 18, 2023 at Birch Pointe Health and Rehabilitation.

 

Robert was born on September 12, 1940 in Bonnieville KY.  The son of John Alvin Thompson and Lula Jane Wright.  He married Wanda Pauline Canterbury of Cabool MO.  She passed away on June 23, 2021.

 

He is survived by a sister Shirley Jane Logsdon of Bonnieville KY, a son John Thompson and significant other Karen Hancock of Mountain Home AR, a son Stephen Thompson of Ozark MO, an ex daughter-in-law Dianne Saunders of Nixa MO, a grand daughter Jessica Barron and husband Jessie of Springfield MO, seven great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, one grand daughter and his wife.

 

Robert retired from the Air Force after 23 years.  After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Saudi Arabia.  After returning to the United States, he went to work for the Civil Service.  He retired again from the Civil Service.  He was an active Freemason and Shriner for years, acquiring the role of District Deputy Grand Master, Seventh Southern of the Grand Lodge of Illinois, he was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Robert was an avid bowler for several years.  Later in life, he enjoyed traveling with Wanda as much as they could.

 

Burial with military honors at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, MO at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023.

 

Arrangements are under the care and directions of Adams Funeral Home of Nixa, MO.

 

Cremations rites are entrusted with Adams Crematory.
