Rita Fay Thompson

October 18, 1950 — June 5, 2025

Nixa

Rita Fay Thompson of Nixa, Missouri, passed away on June 5, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born on October 18, 1950, to Gertie (Thomas) Smythe. Rita was a 1968 graduate of Galena High School.

Rita was a woman of deep Christian faith. Through all her life experiences she never let her faith or her love for the Lord ever be shaken. Rita enjoyed reading and of course her favorite book was the Bible. If ever you needed advice you could go to Rita, and she would quote you a scripture and tell you that she was praying for you. You felt comfort when she said those words and you knew when Rita was praying, the Lord was listening. She was a prayer warrior.

Rita had a powerful love for her family. She adored her son Michael and her grandson Kyler, along with all her nieces and nephews. She made each one of them feel special and of course made them laugh. Everyone who knew Rita had a special and unique story with time spent with her. Rita had a special one-of-a-kind bond with her sister Mary Ann, that was never broken through their life experiences. They had each other, and they held strong together.

Anyone who knew Rita loved her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. There wasn't anything Rita couldn't do. When she set her mind to it, she was going to perfect it. From making birthday and wedding cakes, to writing songs, playing the guitar, and singing with her beautiful voice, she always gave it her all. When we talk about Rita it will always be said she was a wonderful lady and then proceeded by a story of "I remember the time..." and you know you were in for a laugh. Rita touched the lives of everyone she met and wanted everyone around her to feel happy, but most importantly... loved.

Rita is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Mease; a son, Michael Thompson; one grandson, Kyler Thompson.

Rita is preceded in death by her mother, Gertie (Thomas) Smythe; one brother; Ronnie Harris.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Horse Creek Church, 724 Horse Creek Road, Galena, Missouri. A visitation will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Galena Cemetery, Galena, Missouri following the funeral service.
