Rex Gibson Herndon

Rex Gibson Herndon, of Nixa, passed away September 4, 2026, at the age of 99. He was born March 1, 1927, to Clyde and Mae (Gibson) Herndon.

Rex grew up on farms, where he helped milk cows and raise cattle. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping and took great pride in caring for his home and family. Rex loved his simple life with his wife and family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was the most important part of his life. Rex and Janice especially enjoyed watching westerns together.

Rex worked as a lather in the construction business for 40 years before retiring at the age of 60.

Rex married Janice Teeters on September 9, 1956, and they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on September 9.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Herndon; son, Mark Herndon; daughters, Kimberly (Eric J.) Middleby and Michele Espinosa; grandchildren, Amber (Andrew) Nord, Crystal (David) King, Jennifer Espinosa, Edward Espinosa, and Eric T. (Brittney) Middleby; and great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Tyler Nord, Emersyn and Ellie King, and Conor Middleby.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Edith, Lorane, Betty, Roy, Willard, and Ray.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Payne Cemetery in Nixa.
