Norman Elton Autry

Norman Elton Autry, age 92 of Nixa passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022, at his home.

Norman was born on August 9, 1929, in Wildersville, Tennessee to Louie and Virdie (Johnson) Autry. He had nine brothers and sisters. They grew up on a cotton farm in Tennessee. Norm enjoyed fishing and camping.

In 1947, Norm joined the United States Air Force. During his time in the Air Force, he worked in communications as a radio operator. In 1967, he was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant, fewer than one percent of enlisted men ever achieve this grade. In 1973, Norm retired from the Air Force.  Following his time in the service, Norm was a golf pro for three years in Colorado. He also became a real estate broker, owning numerous real estate companies. After retirement, he continued to enjoy fishing and camping. He was always up for a dance and good game of pool. Norm was a Cadillac man; he kept his last black Cadillac for over twenty years.

Norman was an avid supporter of the Eagles Lodge 4262. He spent countless hours at the lodge. He was known as Cadillac Sarge to the VFW Eagle Riders.

In 2002, Norm made the move to Nixa, Missouri to be closer to his grandchildren.

Norman was preceded by his parents, several siblings, and his wife, Karen Autry. He is survived by his daughter Cory Whitehead and husband Kevin, stepchildren Donna Bleau and husband Jeff, Deby Roesing and husband Michael, Bill Autry and wife Dina, Sheila Wegenka and husband Matt, ten grandchildren, and one very special friend and companion Kathy Greer.
