Michael Keith McGowan, age 72, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on May 10, 2025. He was born on September 17, 1952, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Kenneth and Beatrice (Ashton) McGowan.
Mike served his country in the U.S. Air Force, a commitment that underscored his dedication to service. In his younger years, he pursued a passion for photography, capturing moments of military motorcyclists in Japan and other captivating subjects. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Mike also enjoyed refurbishing classic cars, blending his love for craftsmanship with his appreciation for the vehicles of the past.
His professional journey as a licensed electrician took him from Florida to Texas, where he contributed to Baylor University and M.D. Anderson, retiring with a legacy of hard work and dedication. He was known for his enthusiasm in building fast computers for himself and his family, highlighting his innovative spirit. Music played a significant role in Mike's life; he cherished his collection of music and memorabilia, with a special fondness for The Beatles, alongside artists like Willie Nelson and Tennessee Ernie Ford.
On July 3, 1999, Mike married Vicki Porter at The Mansion at Elfindale in Springfield. Their love blossomed from their shared interest in dancing, participating in West Coast Swing, two-step, polka, and more. They were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nixa.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki McGowan of Springfield; his son, Bryce Joseph McGowan of San Antonio, Texas; and two cherished grandchildren, Riley Kia McGowan and Annie Christina McGowan. He also leaves behind a stepson, Gavin Griffin and wife Laura of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Erin Craney and husband Steven, along with grandchildren Liam and Rowen Craney of Houston, Texas; a brother, Gregory; sisters-in-law, Marie and Sharon; and several nieces and a nephew.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bruce and David.
A funeral service honoring Michael Keith McGowan will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nixa, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Jarod Koenig officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, also directed by Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
Mike will be remembered for his kindness, love for family, and vibrant spirit. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
