Melvin Douglas Shull

Mel Shull was born in Amhurst, TX on December 1, 1943, to Grady and Jo Shull. 

Most of his youth was spent in Plainview, TX. As a child, his favorite pastime was antagonizing his three sisters. He loved to tell stories about his mischievous ways as a youth. 

In 1962, in order to serve his country, he joined the United States Air Force. While proud of his time serving his country, that is not what he was mostly known for. In 1975, the course of his life changed drastically. He called upon the Lord to save him. He began serving the Lord in whatever capacity he was offered. He served at Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX until 1989. In the summer of 1989 he moved to San Angelo, TX and began serving at Harvest Baptist Church. While there he served as temporary song leader for over 25 years. He sang in many groups using his dynamic bass voice. He also served as choir director, bus driver, bus captain, bus director, Jr Church teacher, Deacon, Treasurer, and wherever else he was asked to serve. He loved to spend time with children directing them toward the Lord. Everyone knew “Brother Mel” and everyone that knew him loved him. He also loved to discuss the amazing truths he discovered in the Word of God.

Mel died peacefully at the age of 81 on November 4th in Siler City, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Josephine, his sister Linda, and son Mike. He is survived by his wife Dyann, sons Aaron and Brandon, two sisters Glenda and Ellen, 10 grandkids, and 9 great grandkids, and 2 great-great grandkids.

A funeral for Melvin Douglas Shull will be held at noon on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Faith Baptist Church of Spokane, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Brandon Shull officiating.

A committal service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. immediately before the funeral at the church.
