Spokane

Mellie Elizabeth Stewart of Spokane Missouri went home to be with her Lord and Savior May 4th 2023 at the age of 83.

Mellie was born on January 22, 1940 in Spokane, Missouri to Roy and Merle (Bass) Stewart. She graduated from Spokane High School in 1959.

Mellie was a lifelong resident in the area and looked after her parents in their later years. Mellie worked on the farm with her dad and made a great hand. Mellie was a member of the Spokane Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mellie loved teaching the little kids and impacted many lives in her service to the Lord.

Among her hobbies she loved gardening and could name just about any plant. She also loved genealogy and many expert genealogists would call her for help and advice. She was amazing at research, remembering dates and events.

Some of Mellie’s greatest times were taking her young nieces and nephews horseback riding, playing cards and washing the car in the creek. She loved taking them to the creek to wash the car and splash around. She also kept toys and books for them to play with when they would come to visit. Mellie loved her nieces and nephews and they loved her.

Mellie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy “Doc” and Merle Stewart, three brothers, Donald Stewart, Joe Bill Stewart, and Homer Stewart; three sisters, Lola Madden, Imogene Ellingsworth, and Lorene Argie; two brother-in-laws, Harry Madden and Clifford Ellingsworth; two sister-in-laws, Jean Stewart and Norma Stewart; two nephews, Rory Stewart and Ronnie Ellingsworth; one niece, Marsha Cooper and niece-in-law, Paula Stewart (Larry’s wife).
