Matthew “Matt” Alan Schwerin of Ozark, Missouri, passed away on October 15, 2026. He was born on February 1, 1984, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Dave and Lynn (Masterson) Schwerin.
Matt’s early years were filled with activity, adventure, and many interests. He participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, played baseball, attended camp, and enjoyed swimming. He swam on a team alongside his brothers and loved riding his bike on local trails. Matt had a special fascination with aviation and enjoyed attending air shows and visiting flight museums, especially the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Matt had a curious mind and a love for learning. He enjoyed reading, working puzzles, watching movies, and exploring his interests in aircraft carriers and space. Legos were another favorite, and he enjoyed building designs for spaceships and playing computer games. He loved all kinds of music, and crazy car chase videos never failed to make him laugh.
Faith was also a part of Matt’s early life. He served as an altar boy at Christ the King Church in Kansas City and especially enjoyed playing Joseph in the church’s Christmas nativity. While attending Boone Elementary in the Center School District, Matt enjoyed helping teachers with special projects and participating in school plays, Field Day, the fall carnival, and Spring Boone Daze.
Matt later moved to Ozark, Missouri, where he attended Ozark High School and graduated in 2002. He continued his education at Ozarks Technical Community College, studying computer science and networking for a few years. He was employed with H&R Block.
At home, Matt was always willing to lend a hand. He was a wonderful sous chef in the kitchen, helping prepare meals and contributing wherever he was needed. He was always ready to help his father with whatever project or task came along, often stepping in without hesitation. His willingness to help and his many interests were special parts of who he was.
Matt was a devoted sports fan who enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. He also followed the Wisconsin Badgers and enjoyed watching college football games.
Matt will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Dave and Lynn Schwerin; his brothers, Ben and his wife Jenna Schwerin, Nick Schwerin, and Christopher Schwerin; his niece, Airalynn Broadway; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Ernest and Alvina Schwerin and Donald and Dolores Masterson.
Matt will be remembered for his many interests, his curiosity about the world, his love of family, and his willingness to help those around him. His life was shaped by the things he loved, the laughter he shared, and the everyday moments that made him uniquely Matt. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be announced once the date and time have been finalized.
