Mark Randell Kates, born July 30, 1958, in Sacramento, California, passed away on November 5, 2026.
Mark was a devoted father to his three children, Garrett, Bethany, and Shelby. He was the son of Jimmy and Patsy, brother to Craig and Steven, and sister to Tamera. He also held a special place in his heart for his fur-grandchildren, Leony and Belle.
Mark retired from Mercy, where he worked as a biomedical technician. Throughout his career, he earned the love and respect of nurses and providers alike through his incredible attention to detail, outgoing personality, and remarkable ability to fix just about anything. He was someone people could depend on, and his knowledge, skills, and willingness to help left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
Mark was never one to sit still. He loved staying active and always seemed to have a million projects underway. Whether building his house, working on his highly customized kit car, or tackling whatever project came next, he was happiest when he was creating, building, or fixing something. Mark was never interested in simply doing what everyone else did. He had a unique vision and took pride in creating things that were truly one of a kind. Incredibly intelligent and talented, he was a master of many trades. There seemed to be very little he couldn’t figure out or repair.
Beyond his many talents, Mark will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his love of conversation, and the ease with which he connected with people. He was extremely loyal and selfless, consistently putting others before himself. He was loved by so many, and the friendships and relationships he built throughout his life were a testament to the kind of person he was.
Mark leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, generosity, ingenuity, and countless memories with the people fortunate enough to know and love him.
