Maria Gregoria Nicolasa Canul Ek

     María Gregoria Nicolasa Canul Ek falleció el 22 de Mayo del 2023 a los 80 años. 

     Maria Gregoria nació el 9 de Mayo de 1943 en Buctzotz, Yucatán, México. Creció en el rancho de sus abuelos Daniel Ek & Juanita Pool con su mamá, Agustina Ek, papá, Faustino Canul y cuatro hermanos y hermanas, Juan, Placido, Maria Elide, y Maria Evarista. La infancia de Maria Gregoria fue muy humilde y sencilla. Su familia trabajó en cultivar y vender.  Los hermanos hasta se hicieron cazadores para poder ayudar a sus padres en la economía y tener más alimentos para ellos mismos. Maria Gregoria y sus hermanos estudiaron en la escuela hasta el tercer grado. En esos tiempos solo hasta ese grado podían estudiar. Aprendió a leer, cocer, y hacer hilo contado. Entre los 10 a 11 años la mandaron a vivir al pueblo de Vaca con una tía donde ayudó a cuidar a su hermano Placido porque se había quebrado su brazo. Esto la hizo madurar muy pronto a su corta edad. A los 17 años conoció a su esposo, Alvio Ek Tuc y un año después se casaron en 1961. Tuvieron 8 hijos: Manuel, Beatriz, Telma, Silvia, Marcos, Elizabet, Ismael y Angelica. Junto con su esposo lucharon para mantener y alimentar a sus hijos. Trabajaron juntos primero en el comercio de hamacas y luego en el comercio de la costura. Maria Gregoria enseñó a sus hijas a costurar y ellas también ayudaban a cocer ropas para vender. Los hermanos repartían el trabajo entre las costureras. Alvio salía de viaje a vender las ropas en los estados alrededor de Yucatán.  Así se volvió comerciante en los últimos años para darle una mejor calidad de vida a su familia. Vivieron una vida humilde, sencilla, pero contentos. 

     Poco a poco los hijos de Maria Gregoria se salieron de su casa muy jóvenes. Los mayores primero se fueron a Cancún. Los más chicos se quedaron hasta la adolescencia entre 16 años. Su hijo Marcos fue el primer en inmigrar a Estados Unidos en 1987. Pocos años después inmigraron todos los hijos de Maria Gregoria. Ocho años después su hija Silvia le ayudo a tramitar su visa para visitar a sus hijos en EE. UU. por primera vez. En el 2003 falleció su hija Beatriz en un accidente y fue el momento que su hijo Marcos decidió ayudar a su mamá hacerse residente de EE. UU. Así Maria Gregoria empezó a viajar más y por más tiempo y al fin convenció a su esposo Alvio a viajar con ella. Maria Gregoria viajo por 27 años de México a Estados Unidos cada año para visitar a sus hijos y nietos. 

     Lamentablemente Maria Gregoria perdió a su esposo, Alvio Ek el 6 de Noviembre del 2015.

     Maria Gregoria fue una hermana, esposa, madre, abuela, tía, sobrina, y amiga muy amada por todos. Era una mujer extraordinaria con una conducta muy suave, amable, y cariñosa. Vivió siempre muy humilde y sencilla. Ella amaba a sus hijos y familia incondicional. Nunca esperaba nada a cambio de su amor y cariño.  Le encantaba pasar tiempo con su familia, cocinar, hacer hilo contado, leer la biblia y el mensaje.  Dedico su vida a Dios a través del mensaje que ella conoció y aceptó. De muy pequeña la mandaban a la iglesia católica a rezar y dentro de ella decía que no podía. Hasta que un día el pastor Luis del Valle Barrea la Evangelizo en la iglesia Apostólica le hablo de la biblia porque antes en la iglesia católica solo era en latín y no les daban la Biblia a leer. En la Iglesia Apostólica le leyó la Biblia por primera vez y escucho que uno no debe adorar ídolos de piedras. Cuando regreso a su casa tiro todos sus ídolos y santos. Ella entendió que hay un Dios verdadero y con el tiempo se bautizó. Poco tiempo después llego el mensaje de restauración y creyó en la Biblia que es Dios en letras y al profeta de este siglo, William Marrion Branham. Ella milito toda su vida hasta que Dios la recogió. 
Maria Gregoria deja atrás a sus hijos e hijas, Manuel, Telma, Silvia, Marcos, Elizabet, Ismael y Angelica. Nietos: Miguel, Manolo, Jonathan, Erika, Christian, Shalom, Emilly, Stephanie, Isaac, Isaael, Carlos Jr., Alexandra, Ismael Jr., Lesley, Abraham, Anahí, Daisy, Paulina, Alvio, Valeria, Brandon, Sarah, Marcos Jr., Abigail, Sophia, Jade, y Samara. Bisnietos: Diego, Beatriz, Romina, Sebastián, Daniel, José Alejandro, Josefina, Mateo, Javier, Alexandrito, Aracely, Adaline y por nacer una bisnieta y un bisnieto. 

     Siempre la llevaremos en nuestro corazón y memoria como ella siempre nos tuvo en su corazón. Ella derramó amor inagotable a sus hijos, familia, y toda las personas que pasaron en su vida. Siempre ellos primero antes que ella. Nos deja huellas imborrables en nuestras vidas y ejemplos a seguir. La amamos muchísimo y la extrañaremos por siempre.

     María Gregoria Nicolasa Canul Ek passed away on May 22, 2023, at the age of 80.
     

     Maria Gregoria was born on May 9, 1943, in Buctzotz, Yucatan, Mexico. She grew up on the ranch of her grandparents Daniel Ek & Juanita Pool with her mother, Agustina Ek, father, Faustino Canul, and four brothers and sisters, Juan, Placido, Maria Elide, and Maria Evarista.      

     Maria Gregoria's childhood was very humble and simple. Her family’s work consisted of cultivating and farming. The brothers even became hunters so they could help their parents through the economy and provide food for themselves. Maria Gregoria and her siblings studied at the school until the third grade. In those times they could only study up to that grade. During that time, she learned how to read, sew, and cross-stitch. Between the ages of 10 and 11, she was sent to live in the town of Vaca with an aunt Chumin. Here she helped take care of her brother Placido due to a broken arm. This made her mature very quickly at a young age. At the age of 17 she met her husband, Alvio Ek Tuc and a year later they were married in 1961. They had 8 children: Manuel, Beatriz, Telma, Silvia, Marcos, Elizabet, Ismael, and Angelica. Together with her husband, they struggled to support and feed their children. They worked together first in the hammock trade and then in the sewing trade. Maria Gregoria taught her daughters how to sew. They also helped sew clothes to sell. The brothers shared the work among the seamstresses. Alvio went on trips to sell clothes in the states around Yucatan. This is how he became a merchant during those times to give his family a better quality of life. They lived a humble, simple, yet happy life.
     

     Little by little, Maria Gregoria's children left home at a very young age. The older ones first went to Cancun. The youngest stayed until adolescence of 16 years old. Her son Marcos was the first to immigrate to the United States in 1988. A few years later Marcos helped his brothers immigrate to the United States. Eight years later, her daughter Silvia helped her process her visa to visit her children in the US for the first time. On February 14, 2003, her daughter Beatriz passed away in a car accident and that was the moment when her son Marcos decided to help his mother become a resident of the United States. Thus, Maria Gregoria began to travel more and for longer periods of time and finally convinced her husband Alvio to travel with her.  Maria Gregoria traveled for 27 years from Mexico to the United States every year to visit her children and grandchildren.
   

     Regrettably, Maria Gregoria lost her husband, Alvio Ek on November 6, 2015.
     

      Maria Gregoria was a much-loved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, and friend. She was an extraordinary woman with a very soft, kind, and affectionate demeanor. She loved her children and family unconditionally. She never expected anything in return for her love and care. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, cross stitching, reading the bible and the message. She dedicated her life to God through the message that she knew and accepted. When she was very little, they sent her to the Catholic church to pray and within herself she said that she couldn't. Until one day when Pastor Luis del Valle Barrea Evangelized her in the Apostolic Church and spoke to her about the Bible because before in the Catholic Church it was only in Latin, and they did not give them the Bible to read. In the Apostolic Church she read the Bible for the first time and heard that one should not worship stone idols. When she returned home, he threw away all his idols and saints. She understood that there is one true God and in time she was baptized. A short time later, the restoration message arrived, and she believed in the Bible, which is God in letters, and the prophet of this century, William Marrion Branham. She dedicated all her life to the Word of God.
     

     Maria Gregoria leaves behind her sons and daughters, Manuel, Telma, Silvia, Marcos, Elizabet, Ismael, and Angelica. Grandchildren: Miguel, Manolo, Jonathan, Erika, Christian, Shalom, Emilly, Stephanie, Isaac, Isaael, Carlos Jr, Alexandra, Ismael Jr, Lesley, Abraham, Anahí, Daisy, Paulina, Alvio, Valeria, Brandon, Sarah, Marcos Jr, Abigail, Sophia, Jade, and Samara. Great-grandchildren: Diego, Beatriz, Romina, Sebastián, Daniel, José Alejandro, Josefina, Mateo, Javier, Alexandrito, Aracely, Adaline and a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson to be born.
     

     We will always carry her in our hearts and memories as she always held us in her hearts. She poured out unfailing love to her children, family, and all the people who passed in her life. She thought of others before herself. She left us indelible marks in our lives and examples to follow. We love her so much and will miss her forever.
