Lloyd Ray Hurst, 84, of Nixa, MO passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, July 10, 2025, with his devoted wife of more than 62 years, Geneva, by his side.
Lloyd could be described in many ways: Christian, entrepreneur, and provider is only the beginning. He was a follower of Jesus and a dedicated family man, serving his wife, two daughters, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and countless others. He was also a cancer survivor of almost 20 years.
Lloyd was born October 23, 1940, in Mammoth Spring, AR. He and Geneva (Goodson) were married on January 12, 1963. He managed many gas stations, then worked at Dresden Generating Station and Contract Materials where he helped build the power lines running south from Chicago. He also owned and operated Lloyd’s Standard, Lloyd’s Auto Salvage, and Lloyd’s Auto Supply. Then, moved back to Arkansas to operate his cattle farm.
In 1996 he purchased 13 acres in Springfield, MO and built 160 Grand Prix – known to most as “the track.” He loved the work, but especially treasured working with his friends and family. Most days at the track, you could find him in the office watching the go-karts, but when business was slow, he would watch NASCAR races or John Wayne western movies in his recliner. Even though he wasn’t working there anymore, he said he was not retired yet.
When Lloyd wasn’t at the track, he spent his time with his family, tending to his flowers, mowing his (and the church and neighbors’) lawn, or go “ride around.” He also loved his dog, Molly, that would dance for treats he gave her.
He was a member of the of the Eagle Rock Road church of Christ in Branson, MO. On Sunday afternoons, he and Geneva would spend time between church services at The Landing in Branson, MO watching the ducks.
Lloyd liked to travel to places like California and Disney with his family. He also enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Chiefs. He liked relaxing and fishing when he could.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents John and Gola (Kester) Hurst; his sister, Johnnie Lou Pence; brother, Harold Paul Hurst; and brothers-in-law Melvin J. Craver and Ronnie Pence.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva; daughters, Teriona Rhae Fosen (Brian) and Linda Janel Glover; grandchildren Jonathan Lloyd Fosen, Luke Ray Glover, Amelia Moore (Michael), Titus Glover (Katie), Philip Glover; great grandchildren Chloe Morris and Evelyn and Daniel Glover; sisters Kathryn Zehr (Junior), JoAnn Hurst, and Janice Deal (Robert); and brothers Billy Don Hurst, and Gary Hurst.
A funeral service for Lloyd Hurst will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Union Hill Church of Christ in Nixa, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Rusty Ottis officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. immediately before the funeral at the church.
Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Thayer Cemetery, Thayer, Missouri.
