Springfield

Linda Louise LaFollette Cummins Schilter was born on July 4, 1938, to Gertrude (Miller) and Charles Clinton LaFollette in Kansas City, MO. She passed on August 29, 2025, at the age of 87.

Linda graduated as Valedictorian from Miami High School in Amsterdam, MO. Then she attended UMKC. As a child, she enjoyed riding her favorite horse, "Nipper" (an old mare) along the country roads and developed a love for nature that stayed with her throughout life. She grew up on a farm and was the oldest of five children.

On June 6, 1959, Linda married C.J. Cummins. Their daughter, Renee Cummins Yates Aldrich was blessed to have loving parents and families. Linda was a fun and protective single mom for over 17 years. She was adventurous and loved activities like hiking through the woods, playing in creeks and rivers, swimming, and traveling to new places. She always enjoyed plays and musicals too.

In her career, Linda was hardworking, dedicated and ambitious. Linda built her first career in Kansas City. She learned computer programming and became a data processing manager at Hantover, Incorporated, from where she retired after about 20 years.

On March 23, 1985, she married Allan Schilter and was happy to be part of a large family again, as Allan also had children. In 1990, they moved to Ozark, MO, where they built a cabin in the woods that was later where she started her second career as Owner/Operator and Website designer, running Dear’s Rest Bed and Breakfast for 20 years. This career became her mission through Christ Jesus, and she felt blessed by many return guests who became lifelong friends.

Her faith and love of family were cornerstones of her life. Linda was very active in church, first at Lee’s Summit United Methodist, later at First Baptist in Ozark, MO, University Heights Baptist in Springfield, MO, and finally at Wesley Methodist in Springfield, MO. She and Allan have made many friends through church, literary club, business contacts and neighbors since moving to Ozark and later to Springfield, MO.

She was an avid reader and loved participating in activities with her neighbors. She also volunteered at a local hospital, assisting with the check-in of patients. In her spare time, she enjoyed her iPad like a GenZer, keeping in touch with the children and grandchildren through Facebook and started a monthly Apple User’s Group. She especially loved traveling the world with Allan and she never missed a family get-together.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, C.J. Cummins; a brother, James LaFollette; a sister, Judith Haskins, both of Adrian, MO; a son-in-law, Don Aldrich; and a grandson, Michael Yates, both of Raytown, MO.

She is survived by: Her husband, Allan; children, Renee Aldrich, Raytown, MO, Laurie (Richard) Hampton, Smithville, MO, Amy (Billy) Woolsey, Folley, MN, Ann (Doug) Guddall, Ankeny, IA, and Mark Schilter, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Kyle Hampton, Joel Hampton, Amanda (Caleb) Champion, Amelia (Josh) Scuffham,
