Lauren “Laurie” Elaine Meador, 65, of West Plains, Missouri, passed away June 23, 2026, in Willard, Missouri at the home of her daughter Nicole, leaving behind a family, circle of friends, and community who will miss her deeply. Laurie was born on September 16, 1960, in San Diego, California, to Frank and Pat Meador.
Laurie was raised in Bayfield, Colorado, and later made her home in West Plains, Missouri. From the time she was young, Laurie had a tender heart for animals and a natural gift for caring for them. She was active in the 4-H Club during her younger years in Bayfield, where her love of animals began to take root and grow into one of the defining passions of her life. That love eventually led her to Rosa, a miniature donkey who became the matriarch of Laurie’s beloved herd. The donkeys she cherished were more than animals to her; they were companions, sources of joy, and a reflection of the gentle, loyal spirit Laurie shared so freely with others.
Laurie proudly carried the title of “Ass Whisperer,” a name that captured both her humor and her remarkable way with animals. She gave generously of her time as an active volunteer with Ozarks Pet Rescue, always ready to lend a hand, foster an animal in need, or offer care where it was needed most. For many years, she also volunteered at the Old Time Music Festival in West Plains, where she built meaningful, lifelong connections with organizers, artists, and fellow music lovers.
Those who knew Laurie will remember her for her big heart, quick wit, unmistakable humor, and the courage with which she spoke up for equality and fairness. She had a way of making people feel seen, animals feel safe, and ordinary moments feel memorable. Her kindness, laughter, and fierce compassion will remain a lasting inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Throughout her cancer journey, Laurie displayed incredible courage, an unwavering spirit, and a grace that will never be forgotten.
Laurie is survived by her son, Brian Hill and his wife Marilyn; daughter, Nicole Meador and her wife Sandy; daughter, Whitney Davis; son, Jordin Davis; daughter, Cortney Davis; grandchildren, Oliver, Elizabeth, Katy, Natasha, OliviaGrace, Landon, Tyson, and Berkley; siblings, Frankie White and her husband Tom, Diana Talbot and her husband Randy, Charley Meador and his wife Vickie, and LeeAnn Norman and her husband Kris; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and lifelong friends. Each of them carries with them memories of Laurie’s love, laughter, honesty, and unforgettable spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pat Meador; her brother, Patric Meador; her paternal grandparents, Harry and Lois Meador; and her maternal grandparents, Elza and Edith Bell.
A visitation will be from noon to 1:00pm Saturday, June 27, 2026 at People's Park in West Plains, Missouri with a memorial service following.
