John Richard Thompson Jr, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 69. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his family.

Family was the center of his life. Whether it was spoiling his grandkids with popsicles and toy runs, sharing stories with his kids or spending his retirement days with his soul mate, these were a few of his greatest joys. His grandkids were his pride and joy, and he cherished every memory made with them.

A true outdoorsman at heart, John had a lifelong love of horses and the open land. He felt most at peace fishing by the water or hunting in the great outdoors, where he found both adventure and reflection. These passions weren’t just hobbies—they were connectors to his loved ones in the most beautiful way.

John will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of nature, and his devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Thompson of Ozark; his children, John Richard Thompson III and wife Jessica of Ozark, Abby Bilyeu and husband Nathan of Ozark and Seth Thompson and wife Mykayla of Pittsburg, Kansas; grandchildren, Carter Bilyeu, Christian Thompson, Graham Thompson, Hudson Bilyeu, Jillian Thompson, Medley Thompson and Ezra Thompson; his siblings, Fran Harding and husband Brian of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Felecia Cowan and husband Jeff of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Ed Thompson and wife Carla of Pittsburg, Kansas and many nieces and nephews whom he loved to tease and was blessed to stay close with. He was preceded in death by his loving parents John Richard Thompson Sr and Francene, as well as his wife’s parents, Chester and Lillys Clugston.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory and arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
