John Henry Edmiston, 79, of Ozark, Missouri, passed away on September 9, 2025. He was born on March 17, 1946, to Paul and Martha Edmiston.
John graduated from St. Francis High School and later went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in college. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for thirty years, holding many roles before retiring as a dedicated Command Master Chief.
In 2004, John and his wife Susan moved to Ozark. Upon retiring, John and Susan fulfilled their retirement dream of settling in Ozark to enjoy the golden years together. John and Susan were set up on a blind date. They fell in love and got married and blended all their children together. They were an amazing couple who loved all of us, worked hard raising five kids but the amount of hard work and craziness was worth it all. The love and memories that they have left will carry us on.
John gave generously of his time in the community. He volunteered with the Ozark Historical Museum, read to kindergarten students as a “grandparent volunteer,” and welcomed international students into his home as a host family.
In recent years he became an active member of Connect Church. There, he faithfully served in grief counseling, offering comfort and guidance to others.
John was known for his kindness, faith, discipline, and generous spirit. He especially loved baking cookies with Susan, a simple joy that reflected his love for family and life’s sweet moments.
John is survived by his children, Joseph Griner, Stewart Griner, Christiana (Nicholas) Peterson, and James (Elaine) Edmiston; his brother, James Pope Edmiston; his sister, Victoria Flanigan; grandchildren, Carolyn (Annelise) Downey, Daniel Stewart Griner, Kristen Edmiston, and Christopher James Edmiston; niece, Peggy Edmiston; and nephew, Dennis Flanigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Susan Stewart Edmiston, and his son Johnny Edmiston Jr.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark and cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
