John Joseph Brown, age 89, of Springfield passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was born February 24, 1935, in Leon, KS to Floyd Stanley and Ruth Margaret (Adams) Brown.
John's family moved to Chadwick when John was age 4. John graduated from Chadwick High School in 1953. Immediately after graduating from high school, John went to work for Boeing in Wichita, KS. He worked there from 1953 to 1958. John joined the Army in 1958 and was stationed in San Francisco, California. He discovered Ruth Geraldine (Gerry) Goetz, who he had met in Missouri, was working for McDonnell Douglas in Santa Monica. He went to her place of work and waited for her to come out from work. They married September 15, 1958 in Santa Monica. John was discharged from the Army in 1960 and went back to work at Boeing in Wichita. He worked there from 1960 to 1971. He went to work for Zenith, then R.T. French Company, and later Walmart. John had many hobbies. He restored a 1957 Ford Fairlane Retractable, enjoyed collecting old model cars and pocket watches, shopping on Ebay, hunting, bird watching, feeding wild rabbits, watching squirrels, doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. John attended Cherry Street Baptist Church in Springfield. He was saved in 2020.
John is preceded in death by his parents; a son Edward Stanley Brown; and a sister Mary Gene Fuller.
Survivors include his wife Gerry of 65 years; daughters Vicki Brown, Debbie Foster (Pat), Cynthia Finney (Daniel); grandchildren Scott Brown (Tonya), Chris Finney, Brittany Kincheloe (Joey), Tim Finney (Brittany), and Alyssa Olonde (Jones); Great-grandchildren Jadyn Brown, Logan Brown, Aiden Kincheloe, Kinsley Finney, and Ryan Finney.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2024, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 17, 2024, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial will be at Blair Ridge Cemetery in Rueter.
