Jimmy "Jim" Lynn Eakins

November 6, 1943 — January 3, 2023

Jimmy Lynn Eakins, age 79 of Nixa, Missouri passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, January 3rd, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born November 6th, 1943, in Ozark, Missouri to his parents Rex and Ila (Gardner) Eakins. Jim was united in marriage to Sherry Ellen (Wrinkle) Eakins on June 29th, 1984.

He was a successful businessman opening A&J Printing on Boonville St. in Springfield, Missouri in 1968. The business later moved in 1978 to where it stands today in the building he built in Nixa, Missouri. His favorite part of the business was the employees and families through the years that have worked at A&J. He was proud of the fact that he never had to ask for a job but was able to provide jobs to many others over his lifetime.

He was a professional bass fisherman, beginning his career with Finley River Bass Club in Sparta, Missouri. He later traveled with B.A.S.S, F.L.W., the Everstart Series, B.F.L., Red Man, U.S. Bass, and Central Pro Am divisions across the United States. His greatest highlights in fishing were fishing the BassMaster Classic in 1993, as well as inventing The Eakins’ Jig with his son Troy which went on to be the #1 selling fishing jig in the Nation.

He was a member of The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 32nd Degree in the Valley of Joplin since 1972 as well as a Shriner. He currently belongs to the Henderson Lodge in Rogersville, Missouri.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Rex and Ila Eakins. He is survived by his loving wife Sherry; Son Troy Eakins and wife Cathy, Daughter Toni Eakins, and Daughter Kristin Burton and husband Dale; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his sister Neva Hesington and brother Richard Eakins and wife Mary.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 from 10 am to 11 am at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.

Jim will be laid to rest in a private family burial.

Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
