Jim H. Barrett

Highlandville

James H. “Jim”  Barrett, age 78, of Highlandville, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024.  He was born September 10, 1945 in Amboy, Illinois, the son of James Henry and Zenith Mae (Ramsey) Barrett.  On December 9, 1967, he and Ida Faye Hergert were united in marriage.  He grew up in Southern Illinois, served his country in the U.S. Army, serving both in Korea and in Vietnam. He served in Vietnam as a member of the 545th M.P. Company, 1st Cavalry Division.  Jim was the reunion planner for gatherings of those serving along side him in Vietnam.


Following his military service Jim served as a police officer for six years. He then spent 35 years in Insurance Sales.  He and Ida moved to Missouri in 1981, and to Highlandville in 1995.  Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family.


Survivors include:  His wife, Ida; a son, David Barrett and  Anna of Rockaway Beach, Missouri; a granddaughter, Brenna Kathleen Warden-Barrett and Danielle of Spokane, Missouri; and three grandsons, Zachary, Zander, and Zain.  


Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Carroll G. Barrett.


Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Thursday, June 6, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 pm.  Burial with full military honors will be at 10:00 am Friday, June 7, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
