Hoot was born on December 7, 1937 in Denver, CO; the son of Homer Dain and Helen Marie (Hannah) Gibson. Hoot worked as a truck driver over the decades, first as a milkman and finally retiring from Roadway after 27 years. Hoot was also known around the area for singing, playing, and performing comedy at The Oldfield Opry. He loved his family and helping others, especially his friends in AA. Hoot was a hardworker who enjoyed mowing and landscaping with his dog, Sam, but could also be found enjoying riding his motorcycle with a big grin on his face.

Survivors include: his sister, Janet (Kenny) Jackson of Rogersville; four children, Teresa (Raymond) Keller of Fair Grove, Doug (Kerri) Gibson of Nixa; Amy (Dustin) Chamberlain of Crane, and Emily (Rich) Langston of Nixa; ten grandchildren, Abigail Mirree, Lonna Taber, Holly (Gibson) Skinner, Austin, Hailey, and Mylee Chamberlain, and Asher, Owen, Oliver, and Avery Langston; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Cremation Rites have been accorded by Adams Crematory. A Memorial Service will be held for Hoot at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark. Friends and relatives are invited to a Visitation with the family one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home, from 3:00-4:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Hoot’s life may be made to Selmore Cemetery or the AA Central Office of Springfield.

Hoot was my great uncle, his mom a sister to my grandpa. I remember him fondly when I was a child as the pitcher on my dad’s softball team. Decades later we became reacquainted in the fellowship as he shared his life and wisdom with me so warmly and willingly. Just a solid man of love that sowed peace and joy and that I look forward to seeing again when we are both together with the Lord.

It was always a privilege to see Hoot at school volunteering wherever he was needed. He always had a kind word and a smile for students and staff alike at Hurley School.

Hoot was a hoot to be around. I worked in the office at Roadway Express for several years and always enjoyed Hoot coming into the office with questions. I'm so sorry I can be at services Thursday. Randy and I have to be in Bolivar Thursday afternoon. Sending our sympathy to the family.

He’s was always such a fun guy! I helped him a little with some paperwork and he sent flowers to the office. I was certainly surprised. Prayers for you all!
