Hazel Marie McCafferty, age 86, of Nixa, Missouri, passed away on October 29, 2025. She was born on October 17, 1939, to John and Evelyn (Leith) Stinman.
Hazel was a 1957 graduate of Nixa High School, where she played volleyball and enjoyed her school years. Growing up, she often helped pick cotton—a job she was very proud of. On August 31, 1958, she married her loving husband, Jerry McCafferty. Together they built a life centered around faith, hard work, and family.
Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found great joy in caring for her family. She was an excellent cook and a talented seamstress, making clothing for herself and her loved ones. She loved hosting family holiday gatherings and was known for her incredible work ethic—often returning to work the next day after a big celebration.
A devoted Christian, Hazel was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Nixa for over 40 years. She loved the Lord deeply, was an avid Bible reader, and had a true heart for witnessing to others. She served faithfully in the Awana children’s ministry, teaching young ones about God’s Word, and was also a member of the church choir, where she sang both in groups and as a soloist.
Hazel loved flowers, especially red roses, and enjoyed gardening and canning. She also had a fondness for cats and collected dolls, proudly owning nearly every Barbie ever made. She and Jerry loved to travel, taking many family trips out west and memorable adventures together to Canada, Alaska, and across the United States.
Hazel worked for many years as a bank teller, including 17 years with Commerce Bank, and began her career at Farmers Merchant Bank, Springfield right after high school.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Jerry McCafferty; daughter, Pam (Von) Wilder; son, Jeff McCafferty; grandchildren, Hannah McCafferty, Jeremy (LaShonda) Wilder, and Justin Wilder; great-grandchildren, Paige Wilder, Brendon Wilder, and Carson Wilder; and one great-great-grandchild, Payton Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tim McCafferty; and her brothers, Ronnie Stinman and Gene Stinman.
Hazel will be remembered for her kindness, her faith, and her unwavering love for the Lord and her family.
