Gene Arlin Shanks, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went to his heavenly home on August 8, 2025 after an accidental fall. Gene was united in marriage to his loving wife, Patricia (Patti) Shanks, May 6, 1983 sharing 42 years together.
Gene was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 1, 1934 to Virgil and Ruth Shanks. He has lived in Nebraska, California, Oregon, Illinois and Missouri. In his early years he was involved in Southern California Timing Association Land and Speed Records. He also worked at Northrup-Drumond on the F4 Fanthom, a service manager for several car agencies, owned a gas station, ran a computer company (computer programmer), programed the Grammy Awards, owned Casey KOA Kampground and Kamper Sales, built houses and finally retired.
He enjoyed playing on his computer and restoring antique cars. He also loved mowing his four acres on his zero turn Bad Boy. Gene and Patti enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV and enjoyed just being together. Gene was a friend to all.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruth Shanks; brother, Jerry Shanks; sister, Janice Senneff; son Gene Shanks II and a sister-in-law, Barbara Lulay.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Patti) Shanks; son, Donald (Holly) Alan Shanks; sister-in-law, Suzanne Larson; two grandchildren, Katie Holt, Tom Shanks; numerous great-grandchildren; two cousins, Claudette (Alan) Doctor, Bruce (Deb) Doctor and many nieces and nephews.
He loved his two dogs, Stuffy (Shih Tzu) and Charlie (King Charles Cavalier). At Gene's request there will be no services. Donations may be made in his honor to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark and cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.
