Doris Jean Luehrs, age 85, of Springfield, Missouri went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 28th, 2025. Doris passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Doris was born on June 21, 1940, in Norfolk, Nebraska. Doris was the daughter of Dale and Mildred (Loveland) Halbert. She spent her early years exploring the beauty of her family’s farm, especially enjoying the simple joy of playing in the creek. It was on this farm that Doris fondness for animals was cultivated.

Doris graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO with a degree in Christian Education, a reflection of her deep and enduring faith. In 1965, she married her beloved husband, George Luehrs, and together they built a home and welcomed three children. A devoted wife and tireless nurturer, Doris opened her heart and home to dozens of foster children, cared for her grandchildren, and lovingly babysat many others over the years—offering each one care and guidance.

She found joy in the little pleasures of life—watching a good movie, spending peaceful afternoons at Fellows Lake, reading and re-reading Christian fiction books, and sharing quiet moments with family. Doris wrote poems and short stories and enjoyed sharing them with others, using her words to uplift and connect. A lifelong lover of cats, she was always quick to take in a stray, offering them the same warmth and care she gave to people. Her generosity and unwavering faith touched all who knew her.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Mildred Halbert, her sister, Judy Dahl (John), her husband George Luehrs and her cherished son, Daniel Luehrs. Doris’s legacy lives on in the many lives she shaped and the love she leaves behind. She is survived by two children: Rebecca Bruton and Paul Luehrs (Deana); five grandchildren: Audrey Barnett (Ethan), Kaitlin Bruton, Paul Luehrs, Norah Jones (Tolliver), and Rachel Bruton; and four great-grandchildren: Quentin Stidham, Silas Barnett, Sheppard Barnett, and Sadie Barnett.

A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn North Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory and arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
