Doris Sue (Davis) Estes, age 91, of Ozark, Missouri, passed away September 20, 2025. She was born April 26, 1934, in Springfield, Missouri, to Verdie L. and Weymuth (Simmons) Davis. Doris was proud to have grown up on the north side of Springfield and was a graduate of Central High School.
At the age of 16, she met the love of her life, Gene Edward Estes, and they were married on February 22, 1952. After graduation, Doris and Gene made their home on a farm near Ozark. They shared many adventures together, often traveling to border collie dog trials across the area. Doris loved to “go,” no matter the destination.
She worked for many years at Kmart in Springfield, beginning with its grand opening in 1968 and continuing until it closed in 1994. Still, her greatest joy and purpose in life was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
Doris is survived by her children, Carol Taylor, Joe (Lucinda) Estes, and Greg (Karen) Estes; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Kenneth) Barnes, Tracy (Jim) Schmidt, Julie (Seth) Dudenhofer, Cole (Amber) Estes, Kyle (Hollie) Estes, and Chelsea (Kyle) Shoemake; ten great-grandchildren, Alix, Colin, Reid, Abe, Jonah, Paige, Lilly, Eli, Emmitt, and Benji; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents; sons-in-law, Michael Taylor and Richard Greenwood; and her brother, Robert E. (Bob) Davis.
Doris will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, and her warm and caring heart.
A graveside service for Doris Sue Estes will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Hopedale Cemetery, Ozark, with Rev. Randall Harwood officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
