Don Dean Price

Donal Dean Price, age 92, of Nixa, Missouri, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in Springfield, Missouri.

Don was born on October 24, 1930, in Bakersfield, Missouri to the late Charles and Anna (Mitchell) Price. In 1957, Don married Helen Louise Cooksey. Don took his first coaching job at Bakersfield. Don was a physical education teacher, coach, and school bus driver. He coached basketball and baseball. During his teaching career, he coached at Bakersfield, Annapolis, Spokane, and Nixa. In 1974, Don took the Nixa varsity basketball and baseball teams to state championship games. His beloved student and athletes, affectionally called Mr. Price, “Bear”.

While Don loved teaching and coaching, farming was his passion. He enjoyed working cattle, especially calves. He loved going to the sale barn and getting his check. He also enjoyed gardening; his favorite plant was the tomato plant.

In 1959, Don and Helen moved to Nixa. Don was a faithful member of Calvary Bible Church. There he served as a deacon for many years. In 2013, at church, Don met Cheryl Stanley. Together they had nine wonderful years together. As a member of the United States Army, Don served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of sergeant. Following his time in the service, Don attended SMS and earned a bachelor's and master's degree in education.

Don was preceded by his parents, brothers Frank Price and Onis Price, sister Juanita Satterfield, and beloved wife Helen Price. He is survived by his life partner Cheryl Stanley, extended close family Louise Atkinson, Eddie Atkinson and wife Trish, Karen Gohr and husband Mike, and their families, sister in law Jeanie Price, and numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends whom he considered to be family.

Special thank you to The Maples and Phoenix Hospice for their care of Don. Special note of thanks to Joanna, we appreciate your care of Don until the very end.

Memorial contributions may be given to Fair Haven Children's Home, Phoenix Hospice, or a scholarship of your choosing at Nixa Public Schools. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation will be held the hour prior to service.

Don will be laid to rest next to his wife Helen at McConnell Bledsoe Cemetery in Nixa, Missouri. Military honors will be rendered in honor of Don’s service to his country at the cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
