Charles “Bud” Norris, age 93, of Ozark, Missouri, passed away on February 3, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1932, in Neptune, New Jersey, to Charles and Bessie (Waters) Norris.
Bud attended Manasquan High School in Manasquan, New Jersey. In his younger years, he worked as a lifeguard on the beach, a role that reflected his strength, responsibility, and love of the ocean.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years and was especially honored to be an Atomic Veteran. Bud participated in atomic bomb testing during Operation Castle Bravo while serving aboard the USS Curtiss, known as the “Ghost Ship.” His military service was a source of lifelong pride.
On March 1, 1952, Bud married the love of his life, Caroline (Leathem) Norris. They shared many devoted years together until her passing on December 16, 2006.
Bud spent over 30 years working as a systems technician for AT&T. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication. A man of deep faith, Bud attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, Missouri. He loved his family dearly and was a generous giver, a trait he proudly passed down to his children.
He was very artistic and enjoyed woodworking and wood burning, creating detailed pictures burned into wood—talents that reflected both his creativity and patience.
Bud is survived by his three children: James Elwood Norris; Kathleen E. Curtis (Steve Watkins); and Theresa Wright (Carl). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Patrick Norris (Noelle), Christopher Struck (Randi), Kyle Struck (Janet), Tammy Carpenter (Nathan), and Caroyle Engle (Troy), as well as eight great-grandchildren.
