Charles Joseph Calvin Jr., 94, of Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on February 9, 1932, in Sullivan, Missouri, to Charles Joseph Calvin Sr. and Helen Betz. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Technical Sergeant. A Vietnam veteran, he was the recipient of the Air Force Accommodation in recognition of his dedicated service.
Charles met the love of his life, Hildegard, on a blind date neither of them initially wanted to attend—but it quickly became a turning point in both their lives. They fell in love instantly and were engaged by their second date. Together, they embraced the adventure of military life, living in various places around the world and building a strong, devoted family.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Charles began a second career as a lead wirer and inspector for a broiler manufacturing company, where his skill and work ethic were highly valued.
In his free time, Charles enjoyed reading, watching classic westerns, and spending time with friends—especially gathering with his buddies at Denny’s and the local senior center. He was deeply family-oriented and known for his quick wit and humor, sharing laughs with loved ones right up until the end of his life.
After the passing of his beloved wife in 1987, Charles remained devoted to her memory and never remarried.
Charles is survived by his children Elfriede Likins and Joseph Karl (Glondia) Calvin; grandchildren Joseph Likins, Miechele (Lane) Cetola, Richard Joseph Calvin, and Breanna (Shaun) Calvin; great grandchildren William, Alexis, Amber, Joey, Nicholas, and Cody; great-great grandchildren Armoni, Haizley, Noella, Layla, Mateo, Huxley, and Hope.
Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife Hildegard and sister Carmen.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Missouri. A private family burial will take place at a later date in California, where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa and cremation rites are accorded by Adams Funeral Home and Crematory.
