Carol June Overfield Mott Morse passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, surrounded by her family.
A native of Poplar Bluff, Carol was born June 26, 1932, to Robert H. and Alpha (Franks) Overfield. She joined two older brothers, Bobby and Kenneth Overfield. Her parents and both brothers preceded her in death.
A 1950 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, Carol attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri, where she majored in accounting. In 1953, she began working as a bookkeeper for Chas. Miller Store and Wally Hartman Enterprises. She retired in 1966 following the birth of her son.
On February 19, 1955, she married Charles S. Graham Mott, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1989. They shared 34 years of marriage and were blessed with one son, John Robert Mott.
Carol joined the Jr. Citizenship Club (now Citizenship Club) in April 1955 and remained an active member into her 80s. She was deeply involved in her son’s activities throughout the years. She served as a Cub Scout leader and was an active member of the Band Boosters, serving as treasurer and chaperoning trips when the band traveled to National Competition and the Orange Bowl Parade in Miami in 1982.
She was a board member of the Community Concert organization and a dedicated supporter of the Poplar Bluff Public Library, Margaret Harwell Art Museum, PB History Museum, United Gospel Rescue Mission, and Rodgers Theatre Restoration.
A longtime member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Carol served on the Vestry and Altar Guild, taught Sunday school, and was a member of St. Margaret’s Guild.
Carol is survived by her son, John Robert Mott and wife Melissa of Nixa, Missouri; grandchildren Amanda (Ricky) Fuessel of Aurora, Missouri, Stephen Massey of San Francisco, California, Michael Mott (Lindsey) of Ozark, Missouri, and Allison (Sean) Mott Gilbert of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and great-grandson Sebastian Alsever.
She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, special nephew Robert Overfield of Huntsville, Alabama, special niece Julia Williams of Reno, Nevada, and godchildren Laura Whitworth Drury and Steve Whitworth.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Springfield Villa and the caring team at Preferred Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Carol and her family.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Details will be announced when arrangements are finalized.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Food Pantry, United Gospel Rescue Mission, Margaret Harwell Art Museum, or Poplar Bluff Public Library.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa and cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.
