Ann Calhoun. age 85, of Nixa passed away on Wednesday, November 2. She was born June 27, 1937, in Galena, Missouri, the daughter of Elmer “Dutch” and Nanalea Barnhart.
Ann grew up in Galena, Missouri, where she graduated from Galena High School. She married the love of her life, Woody Calhoun on December 15, 1956. To this union three children were born, a son, Gary and two daughters, Janet and Connie.
Ann was a homemaker for several years and then went to work at General Electric in Springfield where she retired after 25 years. She was a devoted Nixa Eagles fan watching her kids and later grandkids play whatever sport was in season. She also was a big St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She and Woody enjoyed many trips to the horse races and to Tunica. She was an avid Bingo player and would play up to 8 cards at a time. Ann loved playing cards with her sisters on Sunday afternoons. She loved spending time with her family and especially Sunday dinners at Granny and Papa’s house.
She is survived by her son Gary and wife Teresa, Nixa; daughter Janet Martin, Nixa; daughter Connie Peebles and husband Quintin, Springfield; brother Joe Barnhart and wife Wanda, Nixa; sister Nancy Barnhart, Galena; twin sister Pam Mullins, Aurora; grandkids, Nicole Burks and husband Dustin, Sparta, Drew Martin and wife Gabby, Rosemount, Minnesota, Brianne Yancey and husband Wes, Highlandville, Garrett Calhoun and wife Hollie, Nixa, Marrissa Peebles, Sevierville, Tennessee; several great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Woody; her parents, Elmer and Nanalea Barnhart; sisters Nan and Mary Lou Barnhart, and Phyllis Rogers; brothers William Barnhart and Neal Barnhart; and son-in-law Kevin Martin.
The Calhoun family would like to extend a “Thank You” to the staff at James River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their devoted care, especially Jamie, Mary, Susan, Flip, Aaron and Michael.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 8 at 10:00 AM at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Burial will follow the service at Galena Cemetery, Galena, Missouri. Visitation will be Monday, November 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
