"You said, the mountain is you" - The Mountain Is You by Chance Peña
On the evening of April 13, 2026, Amber Dawn Baughman passed away at the age of 39, surrounded by the love of her family at Mercy Hospital of Springfield, Missouri. She was born and lived her life in the Springfield area. Amber had a short-lived career in hospitality, a most fitting industry for her caring nature. Throughout her battle with chronic illness Amber never fell short of being the kindest and most loving person in any room, whether checking a stranger into their hotel, laughing amongst the plentiful family and friends she surrounded herself with, or tucking her children to bed. Amber would often say that family is who you make it, and therefore the ones she loved were her family regardless of technicality.
She took pride in children she had any part in raising by claiming them as her own and therefore is survived by Kynslee and Colton representing her flesh and blood, as well as Shyera, Katelin, Racheal, Wyatt, and Christian. Amber is also survived by her supportive husband Jacob Baughman, who she worked with tirelessly to foster a beautiful family. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her father Shelva Combs, stepmother Diane Plank, brother Zack Combs, grandfather Ed Griffin, aunt Sharon Morgan, uncle Mike Morgan, cousins Jacob & Jordan Morgan, along with other extended family that cherishes her dearly. Preceding her in death is her mother Cathy Griffin, grandfather Ernest Combs, and grandmothers Trecia Griffin & Clara Combs.
Amber will be remembered by her ever-lasting commitment to bring out the sparkle in people's eyes, her advocacy for the support of chronically and mentally ill individuals, the willingness she had to give without being given, and most importantly her unconditional love for others.
