Addie Lee Ruth Johnson

March 7, 1934 — December 27, 2023

Spokane

Addie Lee Ruth Schisler Johnson passed away on December 27, 2023 at her home in Spokane, Missouri.

Mrs. Johnson was born on March 7, 1934 to George and Ruth Schisler in Jonesboro, Arkansas.  Mrs. Johnson accepted Jesus as her savior while a young girl and her life was spent in active Christian service.

Mrs. Johnson graduated from Valley View High School in Jonesboro as Salutatorian in 1952.  Following high school she graduated from Southern Baptist College, (now Williams Baptist University) Walnut Ridge, Arkansas with an A.A. degree in 1954.

While at Southern Baptist College she fell in love with her beloved husband Doyne Johnson.  They married on August 31, 1954. Mrs. Johnson served alongside him for the next 60 plus years as he pastored churches in Arkansas and Missouri.  To this union was born a daughter, Dalinda.

Mrs. Johnson attained her B.S. degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1962.  The family then moved to Missouri where Mrs. Johnson taught high school Home Economics from 1962-1982 in Bunker, Missouri. During these years she invested in the lives of her students and threw herself whole-heartedly into loving, prodding and encouraging them in any way she could.  She was class sponsor for many classes, as well as FHA, organizing banquets, fashion shows, Senior girl sleepovers and many other activities.

In 1977 Mrs. Johnson completed her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

In 1980 she proudly took on the title of Grandmother, which her three grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren continue to call her.

In 1982 she moved to the collegiate level as she served as the department chair for the Family and Consumer Science Department at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri until 1991.  She and Mr. Johnson went on Mission Trips to South America and Puerto Rico during these years.

In 1992 she served on faculty at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.  Mrs. Johnson enjoyed inviting her international students to spend Thanksgiving with her family.  She retired in 1998.

Moving back to her hometown her retirement was spent enjoying time with family and becoming an accomplished watercolor artist.  She always found something to do in the community and even team-taught Kindergarten with Mr. Johnson for a year.  They had fun.  She was admitted into the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1999.

In 2008 she and Mr. Johnson moved to the Branson area to be closer to Dalinda and her husband Dennis.  She delighted in visits from grandchildren and celebrated the addition of each great-grandchild with much joy.  She continued to be active at Chestnutridge Baptist Church, Chestnutridge, Missouri until poor health prevented it.

All who had an opportunity to know Mrs. Johnson quickly realized how much she loved life and wanted to be of help to others.  She touched many lives.  As a dear friend said...”only eternity knows”.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, two dear brothers, Randall and Byron and a beloved sister Melendia, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

She is survived by Doyne, her devoted husband of 69 years of the home in Spokane.
